About Lexa Mack
In old episodes of “The Lone Ranger” people would ask “Who was that masked man?” And, the old TV episodes of Superman ended with a similar query.
So, who am I, and why would you, or anyone, want to read what I have to say?
To begin with, I am a woman of “a certain age.” We won’t get too specific here, but the whole Fourth Score thing gives you a general idea.
I am one of 75 million “baby boomers (BBs)” who have retired or are about to (10,000 BBs will retire each day for the next 19 years). I would advise you not to look this up online as all the doom-saying articles will only cause anxiety and hysteria. We can’t help it that we were all born, worked, raised kids and paid taxes (and Social Security and Medicare) at the same time. It is not our fault.
However, we have no intention of “retiring” in an accustomed manner; sitting home and watching TV until we keel over at a time predetermined by the actuaries.
We are consumers, travelers, activists, volunteers, and good citizens. We vote, we are productive, we support causes that we know are worthwhile, we are not worn out shells waiting to be “made redundant.” Don’t you just love British terms?
That is who I am. The mundane details are that I live in the Sierra Foothills in California. I have lost a long-time spouse to cancer and am now remarried. I have children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. I have had some friends for 50 years or more, but make new ones every day. I have lost dear friends to disease and I am grateful every day that I am still healthy and strong.
Life has never been exactly what I was expecting (damn Leave it to Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet, and Donna Reed) and I am finding that to be true of aging, as well. But, I plan on doing the things I always wanted to do and expect that I will accomplish some things I never dreamt of doing. OK, so I will never be an astronaut or a ballerina, but I am writing, and learning, and growing. That is what I will be sharing on this website and I hope that you will share your story with me.
