TIME FLIES

March 3, 2021 by Lexa

TIME FLIES Time Flies…whether you are having fun or not. Although, if I’m being honest, the nine months (count ‘em, 9) since I last posted here have not exactly flown by. When I went to write this, I found something I’d written in July 2020 that had never been posted. Unfortunately, it is still pertinent, so I just put it up before this one with a disclaimer on my tardiness. We had all hoped that by now things would have gone back to pre-COVID 19 “normal,” whatever that means, but alas, not … [Read more...]

OK, BOOMER

April 9, 2020 by Lexa

Definition: Pejorative Expressing contempt or disapproval. Since when did “Boomer” become a pejorative? Lately the phrase “OK, Boomer” is dropped with a smirk and accompanying eye roll. It seems to lump all 75 million of us into one big category that looks a lot like a Trump rally in Kansas. The phrase defines all of us as narrow-minded, outdated, negatively judgmental, and condescending. OK, I must admit that the planet is in kind of crappy shape from a lot of the empire building choices we … [Read more...]

SOMEONE ELSE’S LIFE

July 8, 2018 by Lexa

So, I have been debating about how to say this without sounding like a whiny-assed bitch (WAB). I can’t really come up with anything, so I will just have to go with the WAB model. One common cause of frustration and ongoing theme in my life has been the idea that I am “living someone else’s life.” That may sound strange, but it isn’t. When I first got married (at 18, for crying out loud) my husband was in the Air Force. I was what you might call a conservative version of a “flower child” … [Read more...]

THE REAL REASON FOR MY BLOG

May 15, 2018 by Lexa

Ok, all y’all, now comes my confession regarding the REAL reason for me starting a blog. When I was about four years old I told my mom I wanted to write books when I grew up. Her very prosaic 1950’s response was “better you should learn to type.” Well, I did learn to type, and to organize things, and to get along with people, and, as a result I had a very successful career where I did all of those things on a daily basis. What I didn’t do was write. I thought about writing, I took classes … [Read more...]

STOCKHOLM SYNDROME REDUX

April 8, 2018 by Lexa

For the past year I have both observed and experienced a kind of suspension of belief around our political situation in the United States. It isn’t so much about being a Liberal with a capital “L” as it is about how both liberals and conservatives seem to have become hostages to a leadership that we would not have chosen but feel constrained to either support or placate. I think that people who voted for the current administration may be as surprised about the direction things have gone as … [Read more...]

The Fourthscore Logo

April 20, 2016 by Lexa

For many years I have collected Native American Storyteller Dolls. Most of them are small, and some are expensive, while others were picked up in airports in the Southwest. To me, they represent my role in society. The teller of stories to the children, the keeper of the tribal history. Then I learned about the Koshare (the jester or trickster); the black and white striped clowns of the Pueblo whose antics at festivals and holy days teach the tribe about manners, customs, and sometimes … [Read more...]
